This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, the film being covered here wouldn’t exist.

The upcoming installment of the V/H/S horror anthology series is set in 1985 (and, as such, is appropriately called V/H/S/85), and the latest trailer for it hints that at least one of the segments in the 110-minute movie contains a supernatural, tentacled monster of some kind, and that more than one very likely contains a lot of blood and a lot of violence.

Just as in the previously released teaser for V/H/S/85, this “full” official trailer (which is only thirty seconds longer, but go figure) gives us some extra glimpses of what we’ll get in the different segments of the upcoming film. There appears to be a monster on the loose in some office building (or a government lab, perhaps, though that’s complete speculation), and there’s a punk rock dude being interrogated who—and again I’m just guessing—is likely the one who found a disturbing VHS mixtape of the most horrific things imaginable.

One thing that’s definite, however, is that the film has an impressive roster of directors. David Bruckner (Hellraiser, The Night House), Scott Derrickson (The Black Phone, Sinister), Gigi Saul Guerrero (Bingo Hell, Culture Shock), Natasha Kermani (Lucky), and Mike P. Nelson (Wrong Turn) all bring their expertise to different sections of the movie, which should make for a harrowing watch.

V/H/S/85 premieres on Shudder (which you can access via the AMC+ streaming platform) on October 6, 2023.

In the meantime, check out this very ‘80s poster to commemorate the film:
